Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a seasoned data platform engineer to lead the design, development, and deployment of high-throughput telemetry data pipelines for rocket engines. You will shape DevSecOps practices, build streaming and time-series data systems, and enable real-time monitoring and anomaly detection across multiple teams.

Candidates should have 5+ years in data/software engineering with Kafka/Kinesis, Elastic Stack, Terraform/Ansible, Docker/Kubernetes, and AWS, plus strong collaboration

Qualifications

• BS degree or higher in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, data science, information systems, mathematics, physics, aerospace, or related field.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience developing and testing software or data systems.
• Experience as a DevOps/DevSecOps engineer, data engineer, or similar role with ownership of production systems.
• Experience designing, implementing, and scaling data pipelines for high-volume streaming and batch data.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation.
• Experience with Kafka or equivalent streaming platform (e.g., Kinesis, Pulsar).
• Experience with Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) at scale.
• Experience with Linux, Docker/Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible, Pulumi, CloudFormation).
• Experience with TypeScript or Python and at least one other language (Java, Scala, Go, C++).
• Experience with Agile methodologies.
• Experience with databases and SQL/NoSQL, with data modeling.
• Experience building dashboards (Grafana, Kibana).
• Experience with AWS services (S3, MSK, OpenSearch, EC2, IAM, Lambda).
• Security-focused software delivery knowledge.
• Experience leading technical reviews and mentorship.
• Ability to learn fast and work with limited direction.
• US citizen or eligible to work in the US.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy secure, high-throughput data pipelines for large-scale engine telemetry streams, owning performance, scalability, and reliability outcomes.
• Define the Engines DevSecOps and data ingest roadmap and translate program needs into technical plans.
• Design streaming architectures using Kafka, Kinesis, or Pulsar for real-time telemetry ingest across multiple consumers.
• Own the design, deployment, and tuning of search, indexing, and observability with Elastic Stack for volume time-series and log data.
• Establish and improve DevSecOps practices across the data platform including CI/CD, IaC, automated testing, and secrets management.
• Develop data models and storage strategies for multi-resolution time-series and dashboards (Grafana, Kibana).
• Develop AI/ML and LLM-based approaches for anomaly detection and health monitoring.
• Lead root cause analysis on production pipeline failures and drive corrective actions.
• Define performance, capacity, and cost optimization efforts across the data platform.
• Author technical artifacts like interface specs, design docs, tests, runbooks, and standards.
• Identify risks and mitigation plans to leadership and drive process improvements.
• Collaborate with engine test, design, analysis, and IT/security teams to deliver telemetry solutions.
