Qualifications

  • Candidate must be a current high school junior, senior, or college student.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with library databases.
  • Experience with or interest in teen programs is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Teen Librarians in developing and running engaging and unique program activities for teens.
  • Conduct room setup and clean up for each program.
  • Promote Library programming, activities, and other opportunities for teens. Represent the library in a professional manner and abide by staff policies and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and in writing with patrons and staff at all site locations.
  • Attend meetings and trainings as required or requested.
  • Treat all patrons and employees fairly and with an open mind; maintain patron and employee confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Schaumburg Township District Library has a great opportunity for a current high school junior, senior or college student. We are looking for an energetic, competent and detail-oriented Teen Programming Mentor to join our team.


This is a part-time, temporary position working three (3) hours a week from Tuesday, October 13, 2026 through August 3, 2027. The hours for this position are Tuesdays, with hours from 4:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. or 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. depending on Library needs.


The pay range for this position is $15.00/hour to $16.31/hour, based on skills and qualifications.


Position Summary

The Teen Programming mentor will assist Teen Librarians with organizing and running teen programs. This includes assisting with Dungeons & Dragons Club, developing escape rooms, and other programs as assigned. The mentor provides guidance to teen patrons during programs with patience and enthusiasm. Additionally, the Teen Programming mentor may assist with programs in the Innovation Hub as requested.

Education And/or Experience


  • A current high school junior, senior, or college student

  • Computer Skills: Ability to use workplace technology including email, internet, intranet, and Library database systems

  • Other Skills: Experience playing and/or running Dungeons & Dragons games preferred
