Job summary

The YMCA of Greater New York is seeking a Teen Advisor at Cross Island YMCA in Queens, NY. The part-time role involves supervising teen activities, leading programs like Teen Center and Leaders Club, and recruiting participants.

Responsibilities include planning lessons, ensuring safety, managing paperwork, and reporting outcomes to City agencies and Y standards. Must have 1 year working with teens and complete Mandated Reporter Training within 30 days.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required. College credits preferred.
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with pre-teens and teens (ages 13 and older).
• General knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Access, PageMaker, and Photoshop preferred.
• Must complete the Mandated Reporter Training within thirty (30) days of hire.
• Strong interpersonal skills, leadership, and comfort working with diverse youth and adults.

Responsibilities

• Ensure health, safety, and well-being of participants with close supervision.
• Plan, create, and facilitate lesson plans for all programs.
• Manage administrative data entry in Youth Service.NET and related systems.
• Coordinate participant paperwork, conduct program surveys, and meet city/ YMCA standards.
• Manage adolescent behavior with respect, maturity, and encouragement.
• Develop positive relationships with participants, friends, and family.
• Lead programming focusing on social-emotional learning and skill development.
• Work cooperatively with staff and other departments.
• Create an environment that is diverse and culturally sensitive for teens.
• Attend meetings, trainings, and special events; adhere to health/funder standards.
