Position: Technology Technician I

Reports to:Director of Information & Instructional Technology

Terms of Employment: 12 Months

Pay Grade: 64

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Nature of Work

Under general supervision, provides frontline technical support and customer service for District technology systems and devices. Deploys, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs a wide range of computing hardware and software; provides basic end-user support and training. Ensures that all work aligns with established IT standards and District policies.

Education and Experience

? High School Diploma required.

? Associate's degree in a related field preferred.

? Industry certifications preferred, such as CompTIA A+ or Dell Certified Repair Technician.

? Audio/Video (A/V) systems experience is a plus.

? One (1) year of experience with computer maintenance in a networked environment preferred; or any equivalent education, training, and certification requirements that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Essential Functions/Typical Tasks

? Deploys, installs, and configures end-user devices including but not limited to desktops, laptops, tablets, printers, interactive displays, and mobile devices, for new users, classrooms, offices, and special projects.

? Installs, tests, and troubleshoots network cabling and other essential network connectivity components.

? Performs basic troubleshooting of hardware and software, escalates complex issues to supervisors when needed. Identifies, locates, resolves, and repairs problems according to department standards and procedures.

? Supports software installation, upgrades, and function enhancements under direct or indirect supervision.

? Provides entry-level onsite support, including equipment setup and training for staff, students, meetings, and special events. Provides excellent customer service on a daily basis.

? Documents service calls and assists in asset tracking, inventory maintenance, cleaning, and organization of equipment rooms.

? Maintains current manufacturer hardware certifications for District platforms. Participates in technology training, workshops, or professional development opportunities to keep skills and certifications current.

? Remains current on emerging technologies, District initiatives, and industry best practices relevant to information technology.

? Establishes a professional rapport with students and staff that fosters their respect. Displays the highest standards for ethical and professional behavior while working with students, school personnel, District staff, community members, and other parties.

? Adheres to the highest standards of confidentiality concerning sensitive matters.

? Serves as a role model for others; dresses appropriately for the position; willingly accepts responsibility; and demonstrates pride in the public education profession.

? Demonstrates prompt, regular attendance and is available to work in-person on-site during normal business hours. Available after-hours for emergencies and project completion, as requested by the supervisor.

? Willingly performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

? Knowledge and use of District desktop operating systems, office applications, and typical District productivity software relevant to the position.

? Knowledge of computer hardware components and network systems; knowledge of basic service and repair.

? Knowledge of state and federal laws, guidelines, and compliance requirements applicable to the position.

? Knowledge of District and school safety and security procedures.

? Capacity to lift and transport technology equipment up to fifty (50) pounds on a routine basis.

? Ability to effectively communicate with students, school, and District staff in oral and written form.

? Ability to anticipate work to be completed and initiate proper and acceptable direction for the completion of work with little to no supervision and instruction.

? Ability to apply judgment and complex logic in defining problems, collecting information, and drawing valid conclusions.

? Ability to maintain high standards of organization, accuracy, and timeliness in exercising duties.

? Ability to manage frequent interruptions in a flexible manner and difficult, stressful situations in a professional and appropriate fashion.

? Ability to work independently and as a productive member of a team.

? Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, continually changing work environment.

Vision

Upper Body Mobility

Ability to use hands to grasp and manipulate small objects; manipulate fingers; twist and bend at wrist and elbows; extend arms to reach outward and upward; use hands and arms to lift objects; turn, raise, and lower head.

Strength

Ability to lift, push, pull and/or carry objects which weigh twenty-five (25) or more pounds on a frequent basis.

Environmental Requirements

Ability to work independently; work cooperatively with others; work indoors; work outdoors as necessary for the position.

Mental Requirements

Ability to read, write, understand, interpret, and apply information on a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a proficiency level appropriate to the position; sound judgment; the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile and coordinate information and records. Understands and adequately manages stressful situations.

Additional Work Conditions and Physical Abilities

Duties require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing for prolonged periods of time. Local travel required on a daily basis. Reliable transportation required.

Valid NC driver’s license
