Overview

Responsibilities
Performs a variety of complex diagnostic MRI procedures, with the primary responsibility of completing diagnostic studies from inception to completion under the direction of the radiologist. This includes performing routine MRIs and MRAs, taking accurate verbal patient histories, starting IVs, and administering IV contrast. Maintain a positive imaging environment and act as a patient liaison.
- Performs quality assurance checks on equipment and procedure areas
- Ensures proper MRI safety standards are met
- Ensures all ferromagnetic materials are outside the scan room
- Can explain emergency shutdown procedures
- Demonstrates fire and safety evacuations
- Checks patient transfer/transport equipment for safety
- Operates MRI equipment following established protocols
- Completes protocolling tasks and performs examinations as per MRI protocols
- Properly identifies patients using three identifiers
- Introduces self to patients and explains procedures in understandable terms
- Verifies MRI screening forms and information
- Starts IV access and injects media under physician direction, selecting appropriate sites and equipment
- Records injection parameters and monitors injection process
- Documents QA reports for infiltrations or reactions
- Prepares and positions patients for optimal imaging results
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited MRI program
- ARRT Registered Technologist, RT(MR), or ARMRIT Certified Technologist
- BLS - Basic Life Support, AED, CPR
- Minimum of one year MRI experience
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods, bend, reach, and perform repetitive motions
- Ability to lift/push/pull 50-100 lbs
- Manipulate MRI coils, tables, and accessories
- Reach heights over 6 feet
- Assist in moving patients safely
- Good eyesight to observe patient condition and evaluate images
- Sufficient hearing to respond to alarms and verbal inquiries
- Ability to multitask and remain composed under stress
