Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a Technician-Patient Care PCT for the Medical Surgical unit. This full-time night position runs 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. at UAB St. Vincent's St.

Clair in Pell City, AL. PRN rotating shifts are also available. Eligible benefits include generous paid time off, parental leave, tuition reimbursement, and more. The role focuses on assisting patients with ambulation, daily living activities, documenting changes, and performing selected technical care duties under supervision.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.
• Education: High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with ambulation and transfers, including moving to a recliner or guiding to the bathroom or vehicle when needed.
• Provide assistance with activities of daily living and personal care.
• Report changes in patient condition to nursing staff and document required records.
• Maintain clean, orderly patient rooms and proper operation of medical equipment.
• Perform technical patient care duties as directed, such as oxygen setup, catheter care, pulse oximetry, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Record vitals, weight, and inputs/outputs; perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.

• Assist patients with ambulation as necessary. This may include helping them to a recliner in their
  room, walk to the bathroom or down the hall. Assist dismissed patients in getting safely to their
  vehicles.
• Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
• Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
  Documents necessary records.
• Keeps patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintains medical equipment.
• Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as
  oxygen setup, foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education:

• High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
