Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL, is seeking a patient care teammate to perform basic clinical and non-clinical tasks under supervision in the 5 South Tower Ortho department. Responsibilities include assisting patients with ambulation, daily living activities, and maintaining rooms and equipment, with duties directed by nursing staff.

Required licensure includes BLS Provider within 30 days of hire, and education of a High School diploma equivalency or 1 year of applicable experience.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with ambulation as necessary, including moving to a recliner, walking in the hallway, or helping them to their vehicle after discharge.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living and personal care.
• Report findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional condition to nursing staff; document necessary records.
• Keep patient rooms clean and orderly; maintain medical equipment.
• Perform specific technical patient care duties as directed by staff nurses (e.g., oxygen setup, Foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection, EKGs).
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs/outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.

• Assist patients with ambulation as necessary. This may include helping them to a recliner in their room, walk to the bathroom or down the hall. Assist dismissed patients in getting safely to their vehicles.


• Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.


• Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff. Documents necessary records.


• Keeps patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintains medical equipment.


• Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as oxygen setup, foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
