Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL is hiring a patient care technician to support bedside care on the 5/6 South Ortho/Neuro team. You will perform basic clinical and non-clinical tasks under supervision, assist with ambulation and activities of daily living, and help maintain clean patient rooms and equipment.

Responsibilities include reporting changes to nursing staff, obtaining vitals, and performing technical duties such as oxygen setup, catheter care, and EKGs.

Qualifications

• Provide basic clinical and non-clinical patient care under supervision.
• Assist patients with ambulation and activities of daily living.
• Report changes to nursing staff and document necessary records.
• Maintain clean patient rooms and medical equipment.
• Perform technical duties such as oxygen setup, Foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs/outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Schedule: Multiple Shifts:
  • 7:00 PM -7:00 AM (3) 12 hour shifts with every other weekend
  • 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM (3) 12 hour shifts with every other weekend
  • 7:00 PM -7:00 AM with every 4th weekend, self scheduling
• Work Location: UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham

Job Description

Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.

• Assist patients with ambulation as necessary. This may include helping them to a recliner in their
  room, walk to the bathroom or down the hall. Assist dismissed patients in getting safely to their
  vehicles.
• Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
• Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
  Documents necessary records.
• Keeps patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintains medical equipment.
• Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as
  oxygen setup, foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Licensure / Certification / Registration

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education

• High School diploma equivalency OR1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
