Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL is seeking an OR support role to perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision. You will assist anesthesia providers, monitor the OR environment, transport patients and equipment, and support nursing staff with vital tasks.

The position requires a High School diploma equivalency or 1 year of related experience and a BLS Provider certification within 30 days of hire. UAB Medicine offers paid time off and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• High School diploma equivalency or 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience requested.
• BLS Provider within 1 month of hire date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Responsibilities

• Assists the operating room staff including the anesthesia providers with certain technical aspects of patient care.
• Monitors and controls the operating room environment; cleans and disinfects the surgical suite and/or reusable equipment; disposes soiled linen and wastes; cleans anesthetizing location; cares for ancillary anesthesia equipment.
• Transports patients, equipment, instruments, specimens and supplies.
• Lifts and positions patients according to practice standards; ensures patient and personal safety.
• Assists patients with personal care and activities of daily living.
• Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff; documents necessary records.
• Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse (oxygen setup, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs).
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
