Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Technician to provide basic clinical and non-clinical care under supervision at UAB St. Vincent's - Chilton.

The role includes assisting patients with ambulation, personal care, and daily living activities, while supporting nursing staff with documentation and observations. Qualifications

• BLS certification required within 1 month of hire.
• High School diploma equivalency or 1 year of relevant experience.
• Ability to assist with ambulation and daily living activities.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
• Assist patients with ambulation and daily living activities.
• Record vitals and report changes to nursing staff.
• Keep patient rooms clean and maintain medical equipment.
• Perform technical duties as directed (oxygen setup, catheter care, EKGs).

Job Description

• Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
• Assist patients with ambulation as necessary. This may include helping them to a recliner in their room, walk to the bathroom or down the hall. Assist dismissed patients in getting safely to their vehicles.
• Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
• Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff. Documents necessary records.
• Keeps patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintains medical equipment.
• Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as oxygen setup, foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education

• High School diploma equivalency OR1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
