Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL is seeking a patient care provider to support the 7 North Cardiology Stepdown (15 beds) and Intermediate Care Unit (8 beds). The role offers a night shift pattern with three 12-hour shifts per week at UAB St. Vincent's East.

Responsibilities include basic patient care under supervision, ambulation assistance, vital signs recording, and documentation. Licensure requires BLS within 30 days of hire, and a high school diploma or equivalent with related experience is

Qualifications

• High School diploma equivalency or 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience.
• BLS Provider certification within 1 month of hire; American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
• Assist patients with ambulation and activities of daily living; help to recliner, bathroom, or to vehicle as needed.
• Report findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff and document records.
• Keep patient rooms clean and equipment maintained; assist with oxygen setup, Foley care, pulse oximetry, and specimen collection.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs/outputs.

Job Description

• Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
• Assist patients with ambulation as necessary. This may include helping them to a recliner in their room, walk to the bathroom or down the hall. Assist dismissed patients in getting safely to their vehicles.
• Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
• Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff. Documents necessary records.
• Keeps patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintains medical equipment.
• Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as oxygen setup, foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
