Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL is seeking a Full-Time Night Nurse Aide / Patient Care Technician to perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision. The role includes assisting with ambulation, daily living activities, and documenting patient information.

Responsibilities also include monitoring vitals, maintaining rooms and equipment, and performing specified technical duties per nursing staff directions. BLS required within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications

• BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
• High School diploma equivalency or 1 year of applicable experience required.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with ambulation as necessary, including transfers to recliners and navigation to the bathroom or hallways.
• Assist with personal care and activities of daily living.
• Report changes in patient condition to nursing staff and document records.
• Keep patient rooms clean and equipment maintained.
• Perform technical duties such as oxygen setup, catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs as directed.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and intake/output.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Schedule: Full-Time Nights 7pm - 7am, 1 weekend per 4 week schedule period

Job Description

Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.

• Assist patients with ambulation as necessary. This may include helping them to a recliner in their room, walk to the bathroom or down the hall. Assist dismissed patients in getting safely to their vehicles.


• Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.


• Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff. Documents necessary records.


• Keeps patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintains medical equipment.


• Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as oxygen setup, foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.


• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.


• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education

• High School diploma equivalency OR1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
