Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Part Time Technician I for Edna Mahan Correctional Facility located in Clinton, NJ. The Technician I participates as a member of the clinical and administrative medical team at the Prison.

Minimum education includes CMA/EMT/CNA certification with at least two years of related healthcare experience. Onsite positions require CPR, driver's license, and ability to work day shifts in a nonexempt, part-time role.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of healthcare experience across multiple areas are required.

Responsibilities

• Takes vital signs, height and weight and documents in EMR.
• Assists physician/APP with procedures and prepares inmate for examination.
• Obtains specimen collection and handling, including drawing blood.
• Assists with cleaning, sterilizing and securing equipment in Health Service Unit.
• Maintains supply stock in Health Service Unit and examination rooms.
• Aggregates medication orders and forwards to pharmacy provider/local pharmacy.

Duties

• Takes vital signs, height and weight and documents in electronic medical records ( EMR ).
• Assists the physician/associate practitioner with procedures, including preparing the inmate for the examination.
• Obtains specimen collection and handling, including, but not limited to, drawing blood.
• Assists with the cleaning, sterilization and securing of equipment within the Health Service Unit.
• Maintains or assists in maintaining the supply stock in the Health Service Unit by ordering in a timely and appropriate manner.
• Maintains the supply stock in the examination rooms.
• Aggregates the orders of all medications and forwards to the pharmacy provider / local pharmacy

Minimum Education and Experience

• Valid Certified Medical Assistant ( CMA ), Emergency Medical Technician ( EMT ), or Certified Nurse Assistant ( CNA ) certification required.
• At least two (2) years of progressively more responsible related healthcare experience involving multiple areas of knowledge, skill and abilities and demonstrating competencies to perform the essential duties of the position

• Valid Driver’s License is required. Must possess own vehicle or alternative means of transportation from one site to another.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

As a first responder must have the physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes. Physically able to assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds).
