Job summary

C Spire in Troy, Alabama is seeking a Field Splicing Technician to join our network team. The role covers outside plant construction, restoration, preventive maintenance, facility locating, and customer service drops, with potential Level I–III progression.

You will read splice records, test and troubleshoot fiber optics, review engineering drawings, assist in cable placement, and coordinate OSP extensions while maintaining safety and quality standards across the field.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Some telecommunications experience preferred.
• Ability to learn and develop a working knowledge of fiber plant maintenance as it relates to telecom.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Read splicing records and splice fiber as directed by supervisor.
• Demonstrate a functioning knowledge of testing and troubleshooting fiber optics.
• Make as-needed changes and document test results.
• Read engineering drawings and correlate them to physical plant.
• Assist in physical cable placement.
• Assist in coordination of OSP extensions with other departments.
• Perform detailed visual inspections of OSP construction for quality and adherence to standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
