Job summary

Abbott Park, IL seeks a Technician I, Instruments to maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair M&TE and control systems across manufacturing and QA operations.

You will ensure equipment reliability, regulatory compliance, and efficient operations, working with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced diagnostic environment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2+ years of trades training or equivalent military training.
  • Experience with electrical/electronic/mechanical/instrumentation systems.
  • Experience calibrating, testing, troubleshooting, maintaining, or repairing equipment.
  • Ability to read technical docs, schematics, and drawings.
  • English communication skills (written & spoken).

Responsibilities

  • Perform calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of MTE and instrumentation.
  • Support manufacturing, QA, R&D, distribution, and utilities by ensuring equipment performs within specs.
  • Review and process calibration records, POs, and work orders using Maximo.
  • Analyze equipment data and apply corrective actions to improve reliability and compliance.
  • Assist with development and validation of calibration methods and procedures.
  • Read schematics, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer docs to diagnose issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve equipment problems.

The Opportunity

We have an opportunity for the role of Technician I, Instruments within our Core Diagnostics division based out of Abbott Park, Illinois and this is an onsite role.

Core Diagnostics is a leading provider of diagnostic solutions that help healthcare professionals make informed decisions and improve patient outcomes. Our diagnostic systems and assays are used worldwide to detect, diagnose, and monitor diseases, helping people live healthier lives.

As the Technician I, Instruments, you’ll have the chance to maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair measurement and test equipment, instrumentation, and control systems that support manufacturing, quality, and research operations. You’ll help ensure equipment reliability, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency across the site.

What You’ll Work On
  • Perform calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of measuring and test equipment (M&TE), instrumentation, and control systems following approved procedures.
  • Support manufacturing, quality assurance, research and development, distribution, and utility operations by ensuring equipment performs within required specifications.
  • Review, process, and complete calibration records, purchase orders, and work orders accurately and on time using maintenance management systems such as Maximo.
  • Analyze equipment performance data and apply corrective actions to improve reliability, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Assist with the development and validation of calibration methods, operating procedures, and newly installed equipment.
  • Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, technical drawings, control programs, and manufacturer documentation to diagnose equipment issues.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to investigate equipment-related problems and recommend effective technical solutions.
  • Support installation, startup, and validation activities for instrumentation and automated calibration systems.
  • Ensure compliance with GMP, GLP, safety, and quality requirements in daily activities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 2 years of trades training experience or equivalent applicable military training.
  • Experience in electrical, electronic, mechanical, or instrumentation systems.
  • Experience performing calibration, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, or repair of equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, schematics, and equipment drawings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical education in Electronics Technology, Instrumentation Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting regulated environments such as medical device, diagnostics, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or laboratory operations.
  • Experience with process control systems, instrumentation, and automated equipment.
  • Working knowledge of GMP, GLP, and quality system requirements.
  • Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), including Maximo.
  • Familiarity with laboratory, analytical, or manufacturing instrumentation.
  • Experience supporting calibration programs and measurement and test equipment (M&TE).
