Position Description:

This role requires the assembly of components that can be as small as the head of a pin or as big as a toaster. Most of the work will happen at a workbench in rooms dedicated to assembling early prototypes and production versions of TECLen’s products. There will be soldering, dispensing of tiny amounts of liquids, use of many hand tools and some basic electrical testing.

General Candidate Description:

  • Technician skilled in working with small parts and assemblies including both mechanical and electrical. Has worked at the bench for over five years and requires little oversight once the tasks are understood.

Background:

TECLens (www.TECLens.com) is developing a completely novel correction technology based on quantitative corneal crosslinking, or qCXLTM. The qCXLTM system has 4 primary components:

  • A single use disposable therapy delivery device that delivers therapeutic ultraviolet light (UV) and treatment monitoring ultrasound (US)
  • A user interface console that houses the controlling computer and the UV and US systems
  • A photoactive drug that interacts with the UV to provide the corneal strengthening that results in refractive change
  • A computational treatment planning suite (TPS) that calculates an optimized plan for each patient’s specific needs and provides a control point that the US system monitors during the procedure

Each component of the qCXLTM system has been previously tested either in vivo or in vitro. The role of the Engineer Team Leader is to lead the system integration of the components into a single medical device and oversee transfer of manufacturing of the disposable component to a contract manufacturing organization. Reporting team will include FTEs with electrical, mechanical and software engineering experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Assembling small quantities (1-20) of products
  • Maintaining and organizing multiple workbenches
  • Organizing and tracking a small inventory of components
  • Ordering and maintaining tools
  • Helping to create work instructions
  • Running Bambu Lab 3D printer
  • Reporting out on tasks completed each week

Primary Qualifications:

  • Precise hand-eye coordination skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience working with microscopes
  • Familiarity with PCBs
  • Experience with soldering small components
  • Skilled in the use of tweezers, Exacto knife, and wire cutters/strippers
  • At least two years of experience in assembling small products
  • Experience with adhesives, epoxies, silicones, Loctite, etc.
  • Recognizes quality in workmanship
  • Able to document work
  • Able to maintain a clean and orderly workspace
  • Self-driven and able to maintain a “to-do” list
  • Good communication skills with team members

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with 3D printers
  • Experience working with biological tissue samples desirable, but not required
