Job summary

Savan is seeking a Technical Writer with graphic and web design experience to support the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) OCIO in Washington, DC.

The role focuses on researching, writing, editing, designing, and publishing IT governance, portfolio management, financial management, and policy documentation for internal and external stakeholders. Collaborating with subject matter experts, the Communications Lead, and the project team, you will produce clear, plain-language materials,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in English, technical communication, journalism, or related field.
• At least five years of professional experience writing, reviewing, editing, and developing technical or business documentation.
• Experience writing SOPs, policies, guidance, user guides, or similar materials.
• Graphic design experience creating infographics, diagrams, and visual branding elements.
• Web design and content management experience with publishing on websites, intranets, or collaboration sites.
• Strong knowledge of plain-language principles and government style guides such as GPO or Chicago.
• Working knowledge of Section 508 accessibility requirements.
• U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain Public Trust.
• On-site work at DOT Headquarters in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities

• Research, write, edit, and format DOT IT policies, SOPs, memoranda, guidance, and governance materials.
• Conduct executive writing, copy editing, and plain-language reviews of leadership-facing materials.
• Gather information through interviews, observations, and document review.
• Draft and finalize governance documentation, training materials, and implementation products.
• Develop and maintain documentation supporting IT financial management and related processes.
• Maintain the IT Business Glossary and branding standards.
• Design graphics, infographics, and visual elements for documents, briefings, and websites.
• Design and format executive presentations and portfolio briefings.
• Build and maintain program websites and intranet pages.
• Ensure content complies with Section 508 and DOT branding standards.
• Develop templates, style guides, and formatting standards.
