Qualifications

• Strong attention to documentation accuracy, consistency, and formatting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and common PDF editing tools.
• Ability to safely climb ladders and access elevated spaces to inspect equipment.
• Willingness to work early starts, late hours, overtime, and weekends on short notice.
• Flexibility to work any shift, including split shifts.

Due to nuclear site access/or export-controlled project requirements, this role requires Candidates must also be willing to work on W2.

Hiring: Technical Writer – Maintenance Operations

Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 6:00 AM–4:30 PM or 7:00 AM–5:30 PM

Travel: None

Interview Process: First round virtual with cameras on; second round in person. Interviews may include individual and panel discussions.

Bill Rate: $35/hr

Contract Duration: Approximately 12 Months (Possible extension)

Hours: 40 hours/week

About the Role

We are seeking a Technical Writer to create and maintain documentation supporting maintenance operations. This role combines technical writing with hands‑on equipment inspection and collaboration with maintenance teams in an industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, review, and update user manuals, guides, preventive maintenance work orders, job plans, and technical documentation within Maximo CMMS.
• Validate maintenance instructions against original equipment manufacturer (OEM) manuals and technical specifications.
• Verify labor estimates, job steps, and task sequencing against actual field execution and operational standards.
• Standardize documentation to align with OEM procedures, internal standards, and documentation best practices.
• Create clear, consistent instructions that improve the usability and effectiveness of maintenance tasks.
• Collaborate with technicians, supervisors, reliability engineers, and cross-functional teams to gather information and validate updates.
• Support data entry, document control, and configuration management within Maximo.
• Document technical activities and prepare detailed reports.

Must-Have Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of maintenance experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or similar environment.
• Ability to read and interpret OEM manuals, technical drawings, and schematics.
• Excellent written communication and technical writing skills.
• Strong attention to documentation accuracy, consistency, and formatting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and common PDF editing tools.
• Ability to safely climb ladders and stairs, bend, twist, and maneuver in tight or elevated spaces to access equipment.
• Ability to move between elevated work areas to inspect, photograph, and document equipment and maintenance activities while following safety and PPE requirements.
• Willingness and ability to work early starts, late hours, overtime, and weekends on short notice.
• Flexibility to work any shift, including split shifts and across shifts.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

• Familiarity with Maximo or similar CMMS platforms.
• Experience developing job plans and preventive maintenance procedures.
• Understanding of maintenance workflows, labor estimating, and task sequencing.
• Ability to translate complex technical information into clear, user-friendly instructions.
• Experience collaborating with technicians, supervisors, and engineering teams.
• Knowledge of document control, configuration management, and technical reporting best practices.
• Trade certification or an associate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Maintenance.
• Experience standardizing preventive maintenance programs or supporting CMMS improvements and upgrades.
• Knowledge of Lean Maintenance, Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM), or similar methodologies.
