Job summary

Red Carrot, Inc. seeks a Technical Writer II (Journeyman) for hybrid work in McLean, VA. This role drafts, edits, and coordinates a wide range of materials for government-related programs, bridging subject matter experts and diverse audiences.

You will write for magazines, technical reports, and system documentation, ensuring accuracy and accessibility while collaborating with engineers, researchers, and staff. A USDOT PIV credential may be required.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of professional experience in technical writing, editing and publishing.
• Familiarity with GPO Style Manual and Chicago Manual of Style.
• Ability to ensure Section 508 accessibility compliance.

Responsibilities

• Research and write original content for magazines, newsletters, user manuals, and research documents.
• Collaborate with engineers, researchers, and technical staff to translate complex concepts into clear narratives.
• Provide substantive editing across all production stages, correcting grammar, spelling, and format errors.
• Verify technical accuracy through interviews, conferences, and material reviews.
• Ensure compliance with style guides and accessibility standards (Section 508).
• Independently manage full lifecycle of documents through multiple review cycles to publication.
