Job summary

Red Carrot, Inc. seeks a Senior Technical Editor to oversee editorial processes for high-stakes technical documentation. You will set and enforce stylistic and quality standards across a large publication volume and mentor junior editors.

The role requires a Master’s in a relevant field and 10+ years of technical editing experience, with expertise in GPO/Chicago style guides and strong QA discipline. Hybrid work supports McLean, VA operations.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in English, Journalism, or a technical field.
• 10+ years of technical editing experience with supervisory and project management
• Expert-level command of the GPO Style Manual and meticulous quality control
• Transportation sector experience preferred (highway and surface transportation)
• Ability to obtain a USDOT PIV credential when required

Responsibilities

• Oversee the entire editorial process for technical documentation, ensuring stylistic consistency.
• Transform raw data and technical content into publication-ready documents.
• Perform reference checking, fact-checking, and copyright reviews.
• Focus on substantive editing and verification of technical accuracy across reports and manuals.
• Ensure compliance with GPO Style Manual and agency-specific style guides.
• Manage document lifecycle from outline to final web/print publication.
• Mentor and oversee junior editorial and writing staff.
