Location: Toledo, OH (LMH Sites and STEM Center)

Type: Part-Time / Contract (10–20 hours per week)

Compensation: $25–$40/hour depending on experience and certification

About BESN X Community

BESN X Community is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bridging equity in STEM, digital arts, and workforce pathways for historically underserved youth and adults. In partnership with Lucas Metropolitan Housing, we are launching a Work Placement Program that delivers hands‑on training, mentoring, and job placement for participants ages 14 to adult.

Position Summary

We are seeking a dynamic, engaging Technical Skills Instructor to lead instruction in one or more of the following career pathways, using a project‑based, real‑world teaching approach.

Program Focus Areas
  • Digital Literacy & Office Tech (Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, typing, cloud storage)
  • Web Design & Media (HTML/CSS, Canva, WordPress, graphic design basics)
  • Esports & Game Development (Unity, Roblox Studio, OBS, storytelling in games)
  • Creative Technologies (Adobe Creative Suite, photo/video editing, 3D printing)
  • Cybersecurity Fundamentals (network security, digital safety, ethical hacking basics)
  • AI & Emerging Tech (AI tools like ChatGPT, image generators, prompt engineering, responsible AI use)
  • Retail & Service Tools (POS systems, CRM software, resume building tools)
  • Construction & Trade Prep (OSHA safety, tool basics, intro to HVAC or electrical work)

Instructors teach both youth (ages 14–18) and adults (ages 19+), preparing them for internships, employment, certifications, or continued education in fast‑growing industries.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver engaging, accessible technical instruction tailored to participant age and experience.
  • Lead hands‑on training in one or more of the above pathways.
  • Embed employability and soft skills into technical learning (communication, time management, etc.).
  • Collaborate with mentors and job placement staff to align instruction with placement pipelines.
  • Track attendance, assess participant progress, and provide evaluation reports.
  • Support project showcases, certifications, and career exploration events.
  • Foster a culturally responsive, inclusive, and trauma‑informed learning environment.
Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in at least one of the listed technical pathways.
  • Teaching, tutoring, or workforce development experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and instructional skills.
  • Experience working with diverse, underserved populations (youth and/or adults).
  • Comfortable adapting instruction to different learning styles and tech proficiency levels.
  • Familiarity with trauma‑informed practices and equity‑based education.
Preferred Certifications
  • CompTIA ITF+, A+, or Security+ (Cybersecurity track)
  • Google IT Support, Microsoft Office Specialist, or Adobe ACA
  • Unity/Unreal Training Certification or equivalent game design experience
  • OSHA-10/30 Certification (for construction trades)
