The in-person position reports to the Workforce Development Manager, with 10–15 hours per week including evenings and weekends. Location is Allies in Caring’s main site in New Jersey.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction on email, internet navigation, and accessing online information and services.
• Teach practical skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft 365.
• Support participants with online job searches, employment applications, résumé creation.
• Provide hands-on support as participants practice new skills.
• Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and partners to deliver programs.

Position Summary

Allies in Caring is seeking a creative, engaging, and community-minded Part-Time Bilingual Digital Instructor to help individuals build the digital skills and confidence they need to succeed in an increasingly connected world.

The Digital Instructor will primarily facilitate small-group classes and workshops in both English and Spanish, supporting community members with a wide range of ages, abilities, backgrounds, and levels of digital experience. Participants may include older adults, job seekers, immigrant community members, small business owners, and adults seeking to strengthen their digital literacy skills.

Instruction will focus on practical, everyday technology skills that help participants access employment, education, healthcare, community resources, and economic opportunities.

This position reports to the Workforce Development Manager and may collaborate with other Allies in Caring staff, program staff, volunteers, and community partners.

The position is in-person at Allies in Caring’s main location, approximately 10–15 hours per week, and requires availability for evening and weekend workshops.

What Success Looks Like

A successful Digital Instructor will:

• Facilitate workshops that demonstrate strong participant attendance, engagement, and completion.
• Help participants develop practical digital skills they can apply to employment, education, healthcare, small business activities, and everyday life.
• Adapt teaching approaches, materials, and activities to accommodate different ages, abilities, learning styles, and levels of digital experience.
• Create an engaging learning environment where participants can practice new skills and become more comfortable using technology.
• Maintain accurate participation and program records that help Allies in Caring understand participant progress and program outcomes.

ResponsibilitiesInstruction & Facilitation

• Plan and facilitate engaging, accessible small-group digital literacy classes and workshops in both English and Spanish.
• Teach participants basic computer, smartphone, and digital navigation skills.
• Provide instruction on email, internet navigation, and accessing online information and services.
• Teach practical skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft 365.
• Support participants with online job searches, employment applications, résumé creation.
• Help participants access and navigate telehealth platforms and other online services.
• Teach foundational concepts related to online safety, privacy, and cybersecurity.
• Provide instruction and guidance on digital tools and skills relevant to small businesses.
• Teach participants how to use videoconferencing platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
• Help participants with accessing, navigating, and progressing through Coursera courses and learning opportunities.
• Provide hands‑on support as participants practice newly acquired skills.

Curriculum & Participant Support

• Use existing Allies in Caring curriculum and resources while developing or adapting lesson plans, activities, presentations, handouts, and supplemental materials when needed.
• Adjust instruction based on participants’ skill levels, learning needs, abilities, and goals.
• Explain technology concepts in practical, understandable, and approachable ways.
• Create engaging learning experiences that encourage participation and application of new skills.
• Troubleshoot basic technology challenges involving computers, smartphones, tablets, projectors, and related equipment.

Program Tracking & Administration

• Take attendance and maintain accurate participant records.
• Track workshop enrollment, participation, and completion.
• Administer pre- and post-assessments and/or digital skills assessments when appropriate.
• Collect participant feedback to help evaluate and improve workshops.
• Document participant progress and program outcomes.
• Provide brief program updates and reports to the Workforce Development Manager.
• Assist with workshop scheduling and participant communications as needed.
• Collaborate with Allies in Caring staff, community partners, volunteers, and other program staff when appropriate.

Qualifications

• Ability to comfortably teach, facilitate, and communicate in both English and Spanish.
• Strong digital literacy skills and confidence using computers, smartphones, tablets, and common online platforms.
• Comfortable facilitating small-group learning experiences and workshops.
• Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage responsibilities with limited supervision.
• Creative and engaging approach to instruction.
• Genuine interest in community service and helping others learn and succeed.
• Ability to adapt instruction to people with varying levels of digital knowledge, experience, abilities, and learning styles.
• Comfort using and troubleshooting basic technology, including computers, smartphones, tablets, projectors, and related equipment.
• Availability to work approximately 10–15 hours per week, including evening and weekend workshops.
• Ability to work in person at Allies in Caring’s main location.
• Reliable transportation.
• Ability to occasionally lift, move, and/or set up laptops, tablets, projectors, and other workshop equipment.
