Job Summary
The Non-Credit Instructor in Information Technology is responsible for delivering instruction and training to a variety of students to increase their employability in technical or non‑technical career fields. Instruction and training may be delivered in‑person, hybrid, or virtually on a regular basis throughout the duration of an assigned course or program. The instructor may also meet with college or business partner representatives to learn business, occupation, or industry‑specific training needs pertinent to the courses assigned.
Responsibilities
- Instruction & Student Learning: Delivers and facilitates assigned training curriculum, including classroom instruction, virtual delivery, or in‑person sessions at customer sites, partner sites, remote locations, or college‑owned or leased facilities. Uses adult learning delivery methods, classroom audio/visual equipment, and actively manages class time. Plans and implements learning activities appropriate to student needs, conducts active learning lessons for assessments, provides refresher training or one‑on‑one sessions, updates course materials, employs assessment techniques to measure performance, conducts student surveys for continuous improvement.
- Facilitation & Classroom Support: Reports to site or online class environment, demonstrates professional behavior, teamwork, and exceptional customer service. Keeps accurate attendance and score records, handles student concerns, follows guidelines and reports issues. Crafts supplementary learning materials in conjunction with an instructional designer, ensures materials are finalized at least one week prior to delivery. Maintains required training certifications and may assume secondary documentation responsibilities as requested. Adheres to deadlines outlined in the Letter of Agreement.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
- Three (3) years of industry experience OR, in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree, five (5) years of relevant industry experience may be accepted.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Knowledge of: Mastery level of adult learning theory; delivering adult instruction; communication and computer; organizing and coordinating training programs; Java software development; Python; Statistics; Databases/SQL; Networking; Linux; Data Analytics/Visualization; Cybersecurity (ISC² SSCP or CISSP required); Artificial Intelligence; Machine Learning, NLP/LLM.
- Skilled in: Providing quality instruction; using learning technologies and multi‑media to enhance student learning; instructional planning and presentation; incorporating critical thinking, effective communication, and general education outcomes; effective time management; online communication and record‑keeping.
- Ability to: Effectively communicate and use interpersonal skills; create engaging learning environments that respect a wide variety of viewpoints; be sensitive to the needs of students from diverse backgrounds; work independently without ongoing direct supervision; meet deadlines; evaluate student learning outcomes; maintain confidential and sensitive information, including FERPA.
Scheduled Hours
5 hours per week teaching an 8‑week course, sometimes no more than once per year.
Additional Information
- State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
- Working Conditions: Typical office/academic environment with moderate noise. Must travel to various Columbus State campuses and client sites.
