Job summary

SCAD in Savannah seeks an assistant technical director to oversee the on-site production shop, supervise full-time staff, and manage work-study students. You will ensure spaces are ready for student productions, from animated shorts to films and VR.

You’ll direct daily operations, coordinate with the technical director, maintain equipment and safety standards, and participate in hiring, scheduling, and training. The role blends hands-on craft with leadership in a fast-paced educational setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in performing arts technology or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience with CAD drawing, carpentry, welding, performing arts construction techniques, painting, and rigging.
• Ability to drive 16- and 24-foot box trucks for more than five hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Direct daily scene shop operations to keep projects on schedule and meet quality standards.
• Receive weekly priorities from the technical director and manage daily task assignments.
• Direct technicians and staff during scenery build, load-in, note calls, and strike.
• Manage equipment and tool maintenance, organization, and materials inventory.
• Maintain shop safety standards and OSHA compliance.
• Oversee the work‑study program (10–20 students), train students on safety, and track hours.
• Communicate daily with the technical director about material and equipment needs.
• Provide production status updates and progress reports.
