Job summary

Converse University in Spartanburg, SC, seeks an Assistant Technical Director to support the Technical Director and the School of the Arts in planning, building, and executing events and productions. The ATD will help maintain safety, run load-ins, strikes, and rehearsals, and coordinate with campus partners.

This 12-month role requires strong customer service, multitasking, and the ability to work nights and weekends, with on-site responsibilities across spaces such as Hazel B Abbott Theatre

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or equivalent experience in technical theatre.
• Ability to work nights and weekends.
• Physically able to lift 50 pounds and stand for long periods.
• Technically oriented, creative, and team oriented.
• Friendly, attentive, and able to multitask in a small team.

Responsibilities

• Assist the TD in maintaining safety and efficiency of all performance, production and exhibition spaces.
• Assist with construction and installation of scenic elements for productions, including budgeting and materials stocking.
• Assist with Opera and Theatre & Dance Tech Week rehearsals and student build days.
• Attend School of the Arts production meetings and coordinate with faculty and renters.
• Maintain lighting, sound, and projection equipment in performance spaces.
• Run campus and rental events (load-in, run, strike) as scheduled within Events Services.
• Train and supervise student workers.
• Support rehearsals, performances, and meetings for renters and campus departments.
