Job summary

SCAD seeks a Shop Manager to oversee the wood, metal, foundry, and related spaces, ensuring safe, reliable access to tools for students and faculty. You will supervise hours, hire/train staff, and enforce policies to support class projects and education.

You will lead maintenance, inventory, safety programs, and vendor relations while collaborating with faculty and administration to meet space needs and budgets.

Qualifications

• At least three years of experience in a related discipline.
• Experience in a woodshop or fabrication environment and managing multiple shifts.
• Advanced knowledge of safe operation, repair, and maintenance of shop equipment.
• Knowledge of OSHA safety protocols.
• Familiarity with wood, metal, foundry, and plastic shop tools.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate shop hours and staff schedules with the academic calendar.
• Hire, train staff on customer service and equipment use; review shop statistics.
• Organize tasks, enforce shop policies, guide students and faculty.
• Develop shop policies; evaluate space usage and equipment needs; manage tours.
• Maintain equipment, coordinate repairs, and assist with budgets and purchasing.
