Job summary

Our client in California is seeking an Outside Technical Sales Manager/Engineer to join the sales team in Huntington Beach or Rancho Cucamonga. You should have a deep understanding of circuit boards and conformal coatings, with a track record in direct outside technical sales and a strong ability to close deals.

The role requires travel to roughly 12 trade shows annually, reading engineering drawings, and developing new business with Tier 1 or Tier 2 customers.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in Direct Outside Technical Sales of materials or electronic systems with knowledge of conformal coatings
• Industry experience in aerospace & defense, electronics, medical equipment, industrial or automotive hardware component technology experience
• Experience selling to Tier 1 or Tier 2 type customers preferred
• Strong knowledge of sales principles and techniques
• National travel including ~12 trade shows annually
• Customer-facing presentations and business development activities
• Able to read engineering drawings and calculate cost/pricing for bids
• Strong problem identification and objection resolution skills
• Ability to build and maintain lasting customer relationships
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel

Outside Sales Engineer/Technical Sales Manager

Note: Only U.S. Citizens will be considered since defense-related customers and security requirements make citizenship mandatory.

Our client is looking for charismatic, energetic, self-motivated, full-time Outside Technical Sales Manager/Engineer to join their sales team in either Huntington Beach, CA or Rancho Cucamonga, C. Candidates must have a good understanding of the anatomy of a circuit board and the application of conformal coatings.

Qualifications/Required Experience

• 10+ years in Direct Outside Technical Sales of materials or electronic systems with knowledge of conformal coatings (Familiarity with plasma technologies, application of conformal coatings, potting/encapsulation and epoxy compounds preferred)
• Industry experience in aerospace & defense, electronics, medical equipment, industrial or automotive hardware component technology experience required who has worked in both large & smaller volume operations and environments
• Experience selling to Tier 1 or Tier 2 type customers is preferred
• Strong knowledge of sales principles, methods, practices, and techniques
• National domestic travel including approximately 12 trade shows annually
• Customer-facing presentations and business development activities
• Demonstrated ability to convert prospects and close deals while maintaining established sales quotas
• Able to read engineering drawings and calculate cost and pricing for bids
• Solid experience in opportunity qualification, pre-visit planning, call control
• Account development and time management
• Strong knowledge in Contract Manufacturing
• Manage qualifying opportunities involving multiple key decision makers
• Strong problem identification and objection resolution skills
• Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with customers
• Professional demeanor, selling style, and appearance

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or Business required

• Candidates with knowledge of application engineering who understand where coating would be most effectively applied for particular customers would be highly regarded
• Experience at similar companies (conformal coating, engineering services) would be highly favorable
• The candidate should not be the type that relies on large infrastructure (layers) matrix type organizations to complete assignments
• Motivation, energy, drive and experience are the desired intangibles

Personality type

• Looking for "driver" personality that has demonstrated closing skills
• Ideally the individual likes challenges but presents a refined and somewhat understated persona
• Willing to go out on the factory floor and work with Operations when necessary, but spends most of their time in the field bringing work in

Compensation

Compensation: Base salary with unlimited commission structure:

• Realistic Year 1 $200K-$250K OTE
