Job summary

Automation Personnel Services in Pelham, AL is seeking a Technical Sales Estimator – Sales Engineer to prepare detailed estimates for substation control buildings and related modular structures. You will interpret complex drawings, assess electrical components, and support the sales team to maximize opportunities within the utilities market.

Ideal candidates have a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field and 5+ years in technical estimating or sales engineering.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering, construction management or related field; equivalent hands-on estimating experience considered.
• Minimum 5+ years in technical estimating, project engineering, or sales engineering within building construction, electrical equipment, or utility infrastructure.
• Solutions-driven with ability to analyze customer requirements and provide consultative input.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office; CAD, Revit, BIM familiarity beneficial.
• Detail-oriented, results-driven, strong time management, and clear communication.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed estimates and bids for substation control buildings and modular structures; analyze labor, materials, electrical components and feasibility.
• Interpret blueprints and specifications for structural, electrical and mechanical requirements.
• Review contracts and PO terms; identify and mitigate commercial and technical risks.
• Provide technical support to independent and direct sales teams.
• Coordinate with engineering, production, purchasing and project management to confirm scope, timelines, manufacturability and pricing.

TECHNICAL SALES ESTIMATOR – SALES ENGINEER

Automation Personnel Services is looking for a Technical Sales Estimator – Sales Engineer for a company based in Bessemer, AL. In this role, you will have the opportunity to specialize in electrical substation control buildings and communication shelters as an experienced Field Service Technician that can immediately contribute to increasing capacity within our Logistics Department.

Pay Rate

Pay is Strictly dependent on experience.

Schedule and Hours

Monday through Friday, 7 00 am to 4 3 0 pm.

Technical Sales Estimator – Sales Engineer Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed, accurate estimates and competitive bids for substation control buildings and related modular structures for utilitiesAnalyze labor, materials, electrical components (AC/DC panelboards, battery systems, HVAC, grounding, cable management, etc.) and produce feasibility to enhance sales opportunities in this core market.
• Blueprint and specification interpretation: expertly read and interpret complete technical drawings, blueprints, and customer specifications. Provide skilled interpretation of structural, electrical, and mechanical requirements for substation control buildings and other building systems.
• Contract and risk review: review customer purchase orders, terms and conditions, and contracts. Identify and mitigate commercial and technical risks while supporting successful project wins.
• Sales team support and collaboration: provide technical expertise and support to independent sales representatives and the direct outside sales team.
• Cross functional coordination: work closely with engineering, production, purchasing, and project management teams to confirm scope, timelines, manufacturability, and pricing accuracy

Technical Sales Estimator – Sales Engineer Technician Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering, construction management, or a closely related technical field with significant knowledge. Equivalent extensive hands‑on experience in technical estimating or sales engineering for electrical substations, substation control buildings, telecom shelters or utility infrastructure will be strongly considered.
• Relevant experience: minimum 5+ years in technical estimating, project engineering, or sales engineering roles within the building construction, electrical equipment, or utility infrastructure industries. Direct experience with substation control buildings or similar critical utility facilities is highly advantageous.
• Solutions-driven mindset: proven ability to analyze customer requirements and develop practical, technically sound solutions. Comfortable providing consultative input rather than transaction selling.
• Software and tools: advanced proficiency with Microsoft office, familiarity with CAD, Revit, or BIM is beneficial.
• Professional attributes: Highly detail-oriented, and results driven. Strong time management and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced constantly evolving environment. Self-sufficient and self-motivated with excellent written and verbal communication skills focused on clarity and problem-solving.
