Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of R&D experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of laboratory experience supporting product development, testing, and analysis.
  • Minimum 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency in laboratory testing methods and analytical techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001, GMP requirements, and relevant industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and maintain ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage CAPA, root cause investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor and improve key quality performance metrics.
  • Support manufacturing scale-up, process validation, and production activities.
  • Document laboratory results and process recommendations.
  • Lead new product development initiatives from concept to commercialization.
  • Provide technical updates across the organization.

Job description

The Technical Process Manager serves as the technical lead for Quality Control (QC) and Research & Development (R&D) activities supporting thermal, acoustical, and fireproofing materials within the Thermal & Acoustical Solutions (TAS) business unit. This role provides technical leadership in product quality, laboratory testing, process optimization, formulation support, and new product development while partnering cross-functionally to drive innovation, continuous improvement, and technical problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities
Paper Industry Expertise
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of paper, pulp, and related manufacturing processes.
  • Evaluate and interpret paper samples to support product development, quality initiatives, and technical investigations.
  • Apply industry expertise to improve product performance and manufacturing outcomes.
Quality Management
  • Lead and maintain the plant's ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), root cause investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor and improve key quality performance metrics.
Technical Support & Process Improvement
  • Support manufacturing scale-up, process validation, and ongoing production activities.
  • Monitor, analyze, and improve manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency and product consistency.
  • Ensure compliance with product specifications and quality standards.
  • Document laboratory results, technical findings, and process recommendations.
  • Design, develop, improve, and validate TAS products through value engineering, laboratory testing, and field evaluations.
  • Support formulation development and optimization efforts.
  • Lead new product development initiatives from concept through commercialization.
Research & Analysis
  • Conduct market, competitive, and material analyses to identify growth opportunities.
  • Evaluate relationships between raw materials, processes, and product performance.
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends, standards, and regulatory requirements.
Project Management
  • Lead multiple concurrent projects with accountability for scope, timelines, resources, and deliverables.
  • Resolve quality and technical issues while ensuring accurate and compliant documentation.
  • Track project progress and communicate status to stakeholders.
  • Partner with suppliers, operations, engineering, manufacturing, sales, and other internal stakeholders.
  • Communicate quality, technical, and R&D updates effectively across the organization.
  • Provide technical expertise to support business objectives and customer requirements.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum 5 years of Research & Development (R&D) experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of laboratory experience supporting product development, testing, and analysis, with a strong background in materials testing, formulation, or quality control.
  • Minimum 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency in laboratory testing methods, analytical techniques, and related tools.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001, GMP requirements, and relevant industry standards, with the ability to interpret and implement these requirements within plant systems.
  • Experience conducting risk analysis using methodologies such as FMEA, FTA, and Risk Ranking/Filtering.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, project management, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated awareness of emerging technologies and their application to improve operational efficiency.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word.
  • Proven ability to lead, manage, and motivate teams through both direct and matrix management structures.
  • Strong project management capabilities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of paper pulp manufacturing processes and related operations.
  • Ability and willingness to perform regular fieldwork in plant, laboratory, and operational environments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Materials Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, with the ability to:
    • Develop documentation, training materials, and presentations in both languages.
    • Effectively communicate with English- and Spanish-speaking stakeholders.
    • Translate technical and operational documents from English to Spanish.
