Job summary

Joby Aviation seeks a Technical Program Manager for Energy Storage & Distribution System Software in San Carlos, CA. You will lead embedded C++ development for the BMS and Ground Charging System, drive DO-178C certification efforts, and align software delivery with hardware schedules.

Collaborating with hardware and electrical PMs, you manage the roadmap, coordinate with flight release teams, and run Scrum across multiple streams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
• 5+ years of technical program management for embedded software or integrated hardware/software development
• Experience performing the Scrum master role for embedded or firmware teams
• Experience delivering software under a formal safety-critical process (DO-178C preferred; ISO 26262 / ASIL D functional safety is a strong equivalent)
• Deep familiarity with the embedded software development lifecycle (C++, real-time targets)
• Strong track record of managing complex cross-functional programs and dependencies across teams you don't directly control
• Experience with Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet, or similar tools, as well as requirements management tools (e.g., Jama, DOORS, Polarion)
• Clear, well-structured, and concise communication tailored to each audience, from engineers to executives
• Ability to manage a cross-functional team, including interfaces with hardware design and test teams, through an iterative design process

Responsibilities

• Own Battery System software program execution across embedded C++ and model-based design
• Translate architecture discussions into well-scoped workstreams and manage risks
• Run Scrum for the BMS flight software and Ground Charging software teams across cadences
• Oversee the model-based design lifecycle including HIL verification and traceability
• Manage the DO-178C certification effort with certification partner and FAA designee
• Coordinate with hardware/electrical PMs on roadmap and milestones
• Ensure on-time delivery into system-level integration and flight release
• Coordinate flight software release with Joby software org and Ground Charging software integration
• Lead program reviews and concise status reporting to leadership
• Identify and develop test assets for software prototyping and verification
