Job summary

WSP USA seeks a Lead Underground Paste Backfill Engineer to drive design, delivery, and commissioning of paste backfill systems in mining projects. The role requires leadership of cross-disciplinary teams across underground construction and interface management with surface facilities.

Based in Salt Lake City, UT with consideration for Reno or Elko, NV, the position emphasizes technical authority, design reviews, and risk management to achieve design throughput and project objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mining, mechanical, or civil engineering is required.
• PE or P.Eng designation preferred.
• 8+ years of mining project experience with underground paste backfill systems.
• Experience leading engineering teams on major capital projects.
• Strong understanding of EPCM project delivery and multidisciplinary management.
• Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
• Willingness to travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of underground paste backfill engineering activities.
• Manage multidisciplinary engineering teams and consultants.
• Monitor progress, budgets, forecasts, schedules, and deliverables.
• Coordinate interfaces between mining, process, mechanical, piping, electrical, controls, geotechnical, and civil teams.
• Support project controls, risk management, change management and reporting.
• Lead commissioning, startup, and handover to operations.
• Present status, risks, and mitigation to senior leadership.
