The TLA demonstrates the ability to perform phlebotomy and various technical and clerical functions in the Laboratory based on campus needs. Responsibilities include routine laboratory procedures involving blood, tissue, fecal matter, sputum, urine, spinal fluid, and other body fluids, which may be contaminated with infectious diseases such as HIV and blood-borne pathogens.

Responsibilities and Duties
  1. Perform phlebotomy and specimen processing, adhering to safety and infection control practices.
  2. Provide customer service to clinicians, clients, and communicate effectively with physicians, staff, patients, and families.
  3. Handle associated computer tasks (LIS, e-Source).
  4. Train new employees and students.
  5. Ensure regulatory compliance with standards such as CAP, OSHA, JCAHO, CMS, and laboratory policies.
  6. Maintain competencies and complete mandatory education.
  7. Perform miscellaneous tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Valid Driver’s License with active auto insurance (if applicable).
  • 6 months to 1 year experience in phlebotomy and/or specimen processing.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Customer service, computer skills, communication skills, and medical terminology knowledge.
