Job summary

Bowhead / UIC Government Services seeks a Technical Instructor to support DSCS and WGS SATCOM training in Colorado Springs, CO. The role requires domestic and international travel to multiple sites and durations of 1–5 weeks per course.

You will update materials, integrate NET packages, and manage WSOMS catalog updates. The ideal candidate has 5+ years SATCOM instructional experience, strong technical writing skills, and the ability to travel up to 60–75% (CONUS/OCONUS).

Qualifications

• Four years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree or two years post-secondary with eight years of related experience, or a graduate degree with two years of related experience.
• Minimum of five years related SATCOM and instructional experience in a military environment.
• Proficient knowledge of job area with potential project management skills.
• Must become certified in the training tasks within 6 months of start date.
• Proven SATCOM operations and maintenance experience; trainer background preferred.

Responsibilities

• Update and maintain the training catalog with latest information.
• Travel to WSOCs, RSSCs, DNOC, 53 SOPS and RMCE to conduct catalog training.
• Incorporate NET packages into instruction during fielding.
• Collect course critiques, issue certificates, and deliver results.

Overview

Bowhead seeks a Technical Instructor to support our customer in Colorado Springs, CO.

The Technical Instructor conducts training classes on the Satellite Configuration Control Equipment subsystems for the Defense Satellite Communications System (DSCS) and Wideband Global Satellite (WGS) satellite constellations. This position requires domestic and international travel. The Technical Instructor travels to each site as required to conduct the requested training as directed by the Training Manager. Course durations vary but can require travel for a period of 1 to 5 weeks per training course. Upon completion of the course, the Technical Instructor collects course critiques, issues training certificates, and delivers course training results.

The Technical Instructor also updates course materials for each new hardware or software version release for control systems and ancillary equipment by the OEM or the Government (typically once a year). The Technical Instructor integrates any New Equipment Training (NET) packages into the appropriate block of instruction as fielding occurs. The Technical Instructor is responsible for updating the course catalog for the Wideband SATCOM Operational Management System (WSOMS) suite of courses.

• Travels to the WSOCs, the Regional Satellite Support Centers (RSSC), the Defence Network Operations Centre (DNOC), 53 Space Operations Squadron (53 SOPS), and Remote Monitoring and Control Equipment stations (RMCE) to conduct course catalog training
• Integrates any New Equipment Training (NET) packages into the appropriate block of instruction as fielding occurs
• Collect course critiques, issue training certificates, and deliver course training results
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of four (4) years of prior relevant experience, or two (2) years post-Secondary/associate degree plus a minimum of eight (8) years of prior related experience, or a Graduate Degree plus a minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience. (Note: Two [2] years of experience can be considered equivalent to one year of college.)
• Minimum of five (5) years of related SATCOM and instructional experience in a military environment
• Requires proficient knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience. May have practical knowledge of project management.
• Certified in the task or roles for which they will deliver training within 6 months of start date
• Proven experience in SATCOM operations and maintenance
• Previous technical trainer experience desired
• Excellent technical skills to understand and translate information into presentable instructional material
• Ability to travel (up to 60%) to CONUS and OCONUS sites
• All trainers will be qualified in all operational positions within the WSOC and follow the same qualification process as the active-duty Guardians and Air Force civilians in accordance with AFI13-602V1_SPOCSUP_SPOCGM2022-01.
• Proficiency with technical writing skills is required to update training course materials as needed
• Ability to express a complicated technical idea in a clear, concise, and complete format

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a Top Secret security clearance with SCI access.

Physical Demands

• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
• Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
• Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

Targeted salary range is $110,000 to $125,000 annually based on qualifications and experience.
