Ladders is seeking a Technical Director, Platform Engineering to shape the long-term technical direction for a major platform organization within a large energy environment. The role will lead architecture strategy, guide complex platform decisions, and collaborate with mobile, embedded, and executive teams to improve reliability, scalability, and delivery effectiveness.

Remote opportunity for US-based candidates. Compensation ranges from $265,000 to $340,000 annually, with bonuses and benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 15+ years of experience in production software systems, including 5+ years in principal-level technical leadership roles
• Proven track record of setting technical direction for large engineering organizations
• Deep expertise in large-scale distributed systems and cloud-native architecture, including GCP or AWS and Kubernetes
• Experience leading major platform architecture changes from strategy through delivery
• Ability to influence peer engineering organizations and executives without direct authority
• Strong written communication skills for technical strategy and architecture documentation

• Partner with Mobile and Embedded engineering leaders to align on platform interfaces and integration patterns
• Establish and govern platform engineering standards for reliability, security, and scalability
• Advise executive leadership on major platform investments and technical risks
• Lead technical reviews of high-impact platform initiatives and complex problems
• Identify systemic technical debt and drive multi-team plans to address it
• Develop principal and staff engineers and shape technical career paths

For our client, we are seeking a Technical Director, Platform Engineering to join the team of a leader in the Energy & Utilities space.

This role will shape the long-term technical direction for a major platform organization supporting critical business capabilities in a large-scale energy environment. The Technical Director will lead architecture strategy, guide complex platform decisions, and help align engineering execution across multiple teams and disciplines. This person will partner closely with leaders across mobile, embedded, and executive functions to improve reliability, scalability, and delivery effectiveness. The position also plays a key role in reducing technical debt and developing senior engineering talent.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $265,000 – $340,000 annually
