Job summary

GHD is seeking a Technical Director – Biological Resources in California. The role leads wildlife biology, botany and wetlands teams, overseeing field studies, assessments and regulatory documentation across multiple CA offices including Concord.

The ideal candidate will drive growth in Natural Resources & Impact Assessment and guide complex environmental projects. Hybrid work schedule available; location flexibility across California offices, with strong emphasis on leadership, proposal

Qualifications

• 20+ years of experience in biological resources and environmental consulting.

Responsibilities

• Lead teams of wildlife biologists, botanists and wetland scientists to complete field studies and reports.
• Coordinate with engineers to develop CEQA/NEPA documentation and pursue regulatory approvals.
• Ensure health, safety and environment policies are followed within the area of responsibility.
• Manage a portfolio of major projects in line with project management strategy.
• Manage key client and customer relationships to maintain satisfaction and loyalty.
• Develop staff capabilities and implement development frameworks within the department.
• Set and monitor performance objectives for team members and projects.
• Develop innovative solutions by integrating diverse information sources.
• Lead tender responses and proposals to win contracts.
• Act as subject matter expert and maintain external accreditations.
• Contribute to a strategic community of practice in a defined area of expertise.
