Job summary

GHD is seeking a Technical Director – Biological Resources in California with extensive leadership experience in wildlife biology, botany, and wetland science. You will oversee project teams, drive regulatory approvals under CEQA/NEPA, and lead major projects while expanding client relationships.

The role emphasizes growth of practice areas, development of staff, and managing complex environmental reports across multiple sectors in California, with a hybrid in-office schedule three days a week.

Qualifications

• Minimum 20+ years of experience in environmental consulting with broad responsibilities.
• 10+ years in environmental consulting with 6+ years of full-cycle project management.
• 10+ years of field surveys for natural resources and related qualifications.
• Extensive knowledge of CEQA/NEPA and regulatory frameworks; experience with environmental documentation, permitting, mitigation, and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Lead teams of wildlife biologists, botanists, and wetland scientists to complete field studies and prepare reports and assessments.
• Coordinate with engineers and environmental professionals to develop CEQA/NEPA documentation and pursue regulatory approvals.
• Ensure health, safety, and environmental policies are followed across all activities and personnel.
• Manage a portfolio of major projects in line with the project management strategy.
• Maintain key client relationships and drive growth through account teams and pipeline development.
• Coach and mentor staff; implement development frameworks and identify capability gaps.
