Job summary

NEI Electric Power Engineering is seeking a Technical Consultant for the Mission Critical & Industrial group. You will provide expert design and leadership on complex electrical power system projects, including power system studies and QA/QC oversight.

A PE license and extensive HV experience are required, with mentoring responsibilities and opportunity to contribute to standards across the department. The role supports in-office Lakewood, CO or remote work, traveling 15–35% and collaborating

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution.
  • PE licensure is required.
  • 7+ years of relevant engineering or field experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed design of electrical power systems including one-line diagrams, wiring, SCADA, grounding, and equipment selection.
  • Lead QA/QC on substation engineering projects and develop cost estimates and schedules.
  • Create and enforce technical standards across the department and mentor engineers at multiple levels.
  • Assist with business development by interpreting RFPs and preparing cost estimates and proposals.
  • Train and coach engineers to promote quality and career growth.

Technical Consultant – Mission Critical &IndustiralsEnergy Consulting GroupAbout the PositionAs a Technical Consultant in the Mission Critical & Industrials group, you will function as a subject matter expert working on NEIs new or complex projects in the Mission Critical & Industrial Department. This position will have a high level of autonomy and involve leadership, mentoring, and engineering responsibilities. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment helping with QA/QC, cost estimation, and establishing / enforcing best practices and procedures.Salary Range: $100,000 - $175,000 / yearThe salary range above is based upon the Denver, Colorado labor market.This opportunity is available to both local / in-office (Lakewood, CO) and full-time remote candidates.Essential ResponsibilitiesWorks closely with Directors, Program Managers, and Vice President, acting as a subject matter expert on the most complex projects within the Mission Critical & Industrial departmentPerforms or reviews detailed design of all aspects of Electrical Power Systems include one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, control and relaying schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, grounding design, general arrangement, selection of equipment, writing of equipment specifications, project and construction cost estimates, and project schedulingSpearheads the creation and implementation of standards and provides technical leadership and guidance for QA/QC on substation engineering projectsAttend technical conferences and develop technical industry content including white papers. Strong preference for someone to be involved in industry committees.Acts a Subject Matter Expert in the proposal process interpreting RFPs, developing and approving cost estimates and proposal write ups.Trains, coaches, and mentors engineers across the department at various levels to promote quality and ensure career growth for team members.Assists with the creation and enforcement of technical standards across the departmentMeeting with new and perspective clients, assisting the Business Development team to showcase company capability and thought leadership.Prepares or reviews computer-based models and performs power system studies on utility and industrial/commercial electrical power transmission and distribution systems including short circuit, load flow, relay coordination, arc flash, collection system grounding, harmonic analysis, and other related studiesPerforms field inspection, testing, and construction supervision services when applicableChecks the work of designers, drafters, and field service personnel for overall quality and accuracy as requiredMaintains professional understanding of all applicable Codes and Standards, and construction practicesMaintains strong and responsive Company-Client relationships, particularly for new or high-risk scopes and relationships.Maintains high ethical and professional standardsAttends safety training and follows safety rules and guidelinesOther duties as assignedMust HaveEducation: Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institutionExperience: 7+ years of relevant engineering or field experienceLicensure: PE is requiredDeep experience with high voltage power systems is requiredInterest in training, mentoring, and coaching is requiredProficiency with PowerFactory, ETAP, SKM, Milsoft, SEL Relaying, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office SuitePossesses effective written and oral communications skillsApplicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basisWorking ConditionsWork Environment:Work is performed in an office setting and some field work may be requiredTravel:Typical: 15 – 35%Physical Activities:Must be able to lift 25lbs.About NEI Electric Power EngineeringServing Others.
