NEI Electric Power Engineering seeks a Team Lead for Power System Studies (Utilities) in Denver. You will guide a talented team delivering complex studies for utilities and renewable clients across North America, establish technical standards, and mentor engineers.

You will influence workflows, manage client relationships, and contribute to project design through review, QA, and regulatory compliance services.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant engineering or field experience.
• FE licensure is required; PE is preferred.
• Experience with medium/low voltage distribution, switchgear, and conditioning equipment.

Responsibilities

• Performs and manages detailed electrical studies for utility clients and substation projects.
• Provide coaching and mentorship to team members and QA/QC on studies.
• Establish study templates, methodologies, and best practices.
• Serve as SME for study software and troubleshooting.
• Prepare proposals, cost estimates, and reports for projects.
• Maintain relationships with clients and support start-up and commissioning as needed.

Team Lead - Power System Studies (Utilities)About the PositionJoin NEI's growing System Studies team and help shape the future of power system engineering.As the Power System Studies Team Lead, you'll combine technical excellence with people leadership guiding a team of talented engineers delivering complex studies for utilities and renewable energy clients across North America. You'll play a key role in establishing technical standards, mentoring engineers, improving workflows, and helping expand one of NEI's fastest-growing technical practices.This role is ideal for an experienced power systems engineer who enjoys solving technically challenging problems while developing the next generation of engineering talent.Salary Range: $100,000 - $160,000 / yearThe salary range above is based upon the Denver, Colorado labor market.This opportunity is available to both local / in-office (Lakewood, CO) and full-time remote candidates.Essential ResponsibilitiesPerforms and manages the detailed electrical studies primarily for utility clients in support of substation designs projectsProvides coaching and mentorship for their team members, ensuring that team members are developing professionally and that their career goals are being metConduct review and QA/QC for electrical studies in support of design teamsProvide regulatory compliance services for all project design phases from conceptual design through project testing and commissionEstablish study templates, methodologies, and best practices for electrical system studiesServe as SME’s for study software related questions and troubleshootingSecondary responsibilities may include checking and/or performing detailed design of all aspects of electrical power systems to include one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, control and relaying schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA, conduit, and cable sizing/routing, grounding design, writing of equipment specifications, project and construction cost estimates, and project schedulingPrepares a variety of documents and reports associated with projects including proposals cost estimates, and budget reportsAssists with Client contacts and communication pertaining to specific assignments and meetingsMay occasionally assist with performing equipment, control system, communications, troubleshooting, and relay field testing and start-up and commissioning servicesMaintains a strong understanding and applications of applicable Codes and StandardsMaintains strong and responsive Company-Client relationshipsMaintains high ethical and professional standardsAttends conferences, training workshops, seminars, regular undergraduate, andgraduate classes as appropriate for advancement and as required to maintain quality ofwork.Attends safety training and follow safety rules and guidelinesOther job-related responsibilities as assignedWhat You'll Have the Opportunity to DoShape the future direction of NEI's growing System Studies practiceInfluence technical standards across the organizationMentor and develop high-performing engineersWork on challenging transmission, distribution, renewable, and utility projectsCollaborate with nationally recognized subject matter expertsHelp drive innovation in power system analysis methodologiesMust HaveEducation: Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution, electric power option preferredExperience: 5+ years of relevant engineering or field experienceLicensure: FE is required, PE is preferredKnowledge and familiarity with medium and low voltage distribution, switchgear, motor control centers, and industrial instrumentation and controlsExperience with one or more industry-standard power system analysis software packages such as:Steady State software: (PowerFactory; ETAP; SKM Power Tools; Easypower; Aspen; Windmil)System Protection & Arc Flash software: (CAPE, Aspen, ETAP; Power Factory; SKM Power Tools; Easy Power)Grounding software: (CDEGS; WinIGS)Interconnection & Dynamic Modeling: (PSSe, PSLF)Cable Ampacity software: (Cymcap)Transient Studies software: (PSCAD)Possesses effective written and oral communications skillGood interpersonal and people skillsApplicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basisWorking ConditionsWork Environment:Work is performed in an office setting and some field work may be requiredTravel:Typical: 15 – 25%Physical Activities:Must be able to lift 25lbs.About NEI Electric Power EngineeringServing Others.
