Job summary

MCL Construction in Omaha is seeking a dedicated craft trainer who will stay hands-on while mentoring crews. You’ll raise technical skills on site, lead toolbox talks, and partner with foremen to elevate workmanship.

This role remains hands-on, not management, with a focus on teaching, safety, and standard-setting across projects. Since 1987, MCL has built a reputation for quality and teamwork, and you’ll help carry that legacy forward.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience as a skilled tradesperson at foreman/journeyman/lead carpenter level.
• Experience training crews through toolbox talks or mentoring apprentices.
• NCCER Instructor certification preferred.
• OSHA 30 certification preferred.
• Recognized by peers as a trusted on-the-job resource.
• Must stay hands-on and avoid moving into management.

Responsibilities

• Lead hands-on training for crews on techniques and safety.
• Deliver toolbox talks and mentoring sessions.
• Collaborate with foremen to raise skill levels.
• Maintain hands-on involvement while ensuring quality work.

What You Bring to the Arena

• Bring deep, current hands-on craft expertise and stay sharp on techniques, tools, and methods.
• Train, mentor, and coach crews on best practices, quality standards, and safe work methods.
• Run toolbox talks, mentor apprentices, and build simple job aids and training materials.
• Partner with foremen and superintendents to raise the technical skill level across projects.
• Serve as a trusted, go-to resource for crews — without taking on management or P&L responsibility.
• Stay plugged into industry training standards and bring new methods back to the field.

The Skills Behind the Build

• Deep, hands-on experience as a skilled tradesperson or craft professional (Foreman, Journeyman, Lead Carpenter, or equivalent).
• Proven track record of teaching or mentoring — toolbox talks, apprentice mentoring, an instructor credential, or similar.
• NCCER Instructor certification preferred.
• OSHA 30 certification preferred.
• Recognized by peers as a trusted, go-to resource on the job site.
• Genuine interest in staying hands-on and teaching — not using this as a stepping stone back into management.
