Job description

Prop-tech/Hospitality company is hiring an Accounting Manager to lead a small, high-leverage accounting team. Partnering across the accounting function through technical and operational execution, reviewing the team’s deliverables, setting the standard for it, and growing their scope. Additionally you will own key areas of the monthly close, the fixed asset function, and accounting policy and procedure review.

This is a player-coach role. On a team this size, you'll still prepare the entries yourself, and you'll be one of the last set of eyes before the books are closed. You'll also have the opportunity to rebuild processes as we are targeting a faster and better controlled close process.

How You'll Lead
  • Manage, review, and develop 1–2 team members — set clear ownership of close areas, give specific feedback on their work, and expand what they can carry over time.
  • Own the close calendar and the team's workload: assign areas, monitor progress against deadlines, and remove blockers before they become misses.
  • Review journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation prepared by your team, and hold a consistent standard for what “audit-ready” means.
  • Build the team's bench strength —Eliminate 'single-owner black boxes' in key close areas (including fixed assets) by standardizing all recurring processes with documented procedures, robust completeness checks, and mandatory peer reviews.
  • Partner with FP&A, Operations, and business leaders as the accounting point of contact; translate results into answers they can act on.
  • Participate in hiring as the team grows, and help define what the next role on this team looks like.
What You'll Own
  • Run your assigned areas of the monthly general ledger close — hit the calendar every month and help drive days-to-close down.
  • Contribute to balance sheet ownership across your assigned areas — reconciliation quality, aging of open items, and resolution of anything unexplained before the books close.
  • Support technical accounting decisions and methodology across the close, applying US GAAP consistently and defensibly.
  • Stand behind the balance sheet — reconciliation quality, aging of open items, and resolution of anything unexplained before the books close.
  • Deliver monthly flux analysis that explains variance drivers in business terms — and be able to defend it to leadership.
  • Take part in the external audit relationship: PBC schedules, request tracking, technical discussions, and coordination through sign‑off.
  • Research, document, and apply technical accounting positions under US GAAP (revenue recognition, leases, accruals, capitalization); own accounting policies and memos, and keep them current as the business changes.
  • Design and enforce internal controls around the close — ownership, review evidence, materiality thresholds, and segregation of duties on a small team.
  • Own transaction coding accuracy (GL account, department, location, class) and fix the upstream cause rather than correcting the same errors monthly.
Where You'll Modernize
  • Set the team's AI and automation agenda: identify the highest-cost manual work in the close and get it eliminated — first-pass reconciliations, variance flagging, draft flux commentary, manual tie‑outs.
  • Build reusable, documented workflows — prompts, agents, scripts, templates — and make sure your team can run them, not just watch you run them.
  • Drive system improvements in NetSuite and connected tools; scope integration gaps and own them through to a fix.
  • Make the team data self‑sufficient — able to pull and validate their own numbers rather than waiting in a request queue.
What You Need
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in public accounting or professional services.
  • 3+ years of directly managing or leading accountants, with evidence of having grown people beyond their starting scope.
  • Ownership of assigned close areas in a multi‑entity environment, delivered on a deadline without rework.
  • Strong US GAAP knowledge with the ability to research a position, write it up, and defend it to auditors.
  • Advanced Excel and Google Sheets — pivot tables, XLOOKUP/index‑match, Power Query or equivalent, and models a reviewer can follow.
  • Hands‑on ERP experience; NetSuite required, NetSuite Fixed Asset Management strongly preferred.
  • Direct ownership of a fixed asset sub‑ledger at volume, including multi‑subsidiary depreciation runs, disposals, and subl‑ledger‑to‑GL reconciliation.
  • Demonstrated use of AI tools in real accounting work. We'll ask for specifics: what you built, what it replaced, what it saved, and how you controlled for errors.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain results to non-accountants and give direct feedback to your team.
  • Independent judgment — you research a position, make the call, and defend it. We'll ask for examples.
Nice to Have
  • CPA — strongly preferred at this level; Master's degree a plus.
  • Ramp, Sigma (or another BI tool)
  • SQL or Python for reconciling data at volume.
  • Experience in real estate, hospitality, or a high‑growth multi‑entity business.
  • Experience leading an ERP migration, a first audit, or a controls build‑out.
