Director of Accounting / Assistant Controller | Tech-Forward SaaS | Washington, D.C. Metro (Hybrid 3-4 days in office) | Strong base + attractive equity package
Our client is a tech-forward SaaS company that has grown so fast, the accounting function needs to be built for where the business is headed, not where it's been. They've crossed $200M in revenue and aren't slowing down, which means this seat can't be comfortable with doing what's been done over the last few years. They need someone who can build a scaling accounting function from the ground up: real infrastructure, real process, real automation, and do it working alongside some of the best finance and leadership talent in the industry at a genuinely great organization.
What You'll Own
- Full close and consolidation across multiple legal entities, including cross-border and multi-currency complexity
- Revenue recognition and lease accounting under current GAAP standards, hands-on, not just reviewed
- Process and systems improvement: you'll be expected to personally redesign, automate, or rebuild what isn't working, not wait for someone else to greenlight it
- Direct, hands-on work in the numbers: reconciliations, close mechanics, and reporting, alongside oversight
- Management of a distributed accounting team, including developing and managing team leads, not just individual contributors
- Partnership with FP&A, tax, and executive leadership on reporting accuracy and process integrity as the business continues to scale
What You Bring
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with real ownership of close and consolidation at a company generating at least $75M+ in revenue (prefer over 150mm)
- A track record of personally building or overhauling a process, system, or automation, and being able to speak concretely to what you built and what it replaced
- Direct, hands-on experience with revenue recognition and lease accounting standards
- A history of operating independently: you drive change and keep leadership informed, rather than waiting to be told what to do
- Experience in a genuinely fast-paced, tech-forward environment, or a demonstrated ability to drive fast change inside a slower one
- Comfort working with automation and modern finance tooling; bonus points if you've built something that specifically replaced manual work using AI
Nice to Haves
- Experience in a product- or project-delivery business with real cost-of-goods exposure
- International or multi-currency consolidation experience
- Active CPA preferred
- Experience managing managers, not just individual contributors, across a distributed team
- This is a fantastic environment for someone who grew up in Big 4 and has spent time scaling a corporate accounting department.
