Job summary

Peoria Public Library is seeking a Full-Time Reference Assistant assigned to the Main Library. The role focuses on reference and readers advisory, programming development, and assisting with collection maintenance, with a strong emphasis on public service.

The ideal candidate exhibits enthusiasm for engaging with diverse community members, helping users access information, and delivering training on library resources and technology.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree and previous library experience.
• Familiarity with computers and personal technology.
• Ability to work with the public and present programs.

Responsibilities

• Staffs the Information Desk and provides reference and readers advisory service to customers in person, online or by phone.
• Helps customers use the library and provides instruction on the use of library materials, equipment and databases.
• Assists in collection maintenance including ordering, processing new materials, weeding, mending or shelving.
• Performs circulation duties, issues library cards, collects fines, and may operate book drops.
• Develops and presents programs such as teen programming and Summer Reading.
• Maintains day-to-day department duties: shelving, weeding, displays.
