Job summary

The Champaign Public Library is seeking an Information Assistant to support customers at public service desks with information and reference questions, and to help patrons use library computers, devices, and the Studio makerspace. You will assist with displays and adult programming, and contribute to a welcoming environment.

You will join a customer-focused team, stay current on resources and technology, and provide excellent service.

Qualifications

• Exceptional customer service and a commitment to public service.
• Ability to work with customers and staff in a consistently friendly and efficient manner.
• Knowledge of books, music, movies, and media.
• Strong computer and technology skills incl. Internet, devices, and social media.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Some experience with a library catalog or automation system.
• Knowledge of library procedures and methods.
• Ability to guide others and enforce library policies.
• Ability to train and supervise volunteers.
• Ability to maintain reliable attendance and varied schedule.

Responsibilities

• Assist and advise customers with library materials, including books, movies, music, and electronic resources.
• Assist with questions on software, makerspace tools, and technology needs for all ages.
• Maintain awareness of technology developments relevant to libraries and users.
• Answer informational and basic reference questions for customers of all ages.
• Assist with planning and executing programs/events.
• Coordinate content for internal staff and public webpages.
• Assist with training and supervision of library volunteers and staff.
• Monitor and address customer behavior to ensure a welcoming environment.
• Participate in library training and safety activities.
• Provide excellent internal and external customer service.
