Job summary

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Company (BHSI) invites motivated students to join our Technology team in Boston for a 12-week paid Summer Intern program. You'll work on building our next-generation small commercial insurance platform using a modern cloud-based stack, within an agile scrum team.

You will design, implement, test, and document software components, gain exposure to APIs, automation, AI-assisted development, and help improve quality and delivery across the insurance lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Hands-on coding experience through coursework, personal projects, hackathons, or internships.
• Understanding of the software development lifecycle from design to delivery.
• Interest in using AI tools to accelerate development and testing.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Participate as a member of an agile scrum team, including sprint planning, daily standups, reviews, and retrospectives.
• Design, build, test, and document software solutions across the platform with guidance from experienced engineers.
• Develop and execute test cases and contribute to automated testing.
• Investigate, reproduce, and troubleshoot defects and identify root causes.
• Use AI-assisted development and testing tools to accelerate work and share learnings.
• Take ownership of assigned tasks and drive them to completion.
• Communicate progress, questions, and blockers clearly with teammates and stakeholders.
• Present work and learnings to the team and technology leadership at internship end.
