Job summary

Selby Jennings is seeking a Business Development Associate to help source and origination of investment opportunities in the lower middle market. The role emphasizes building relationships with deal intermediaries and managing a robust deal pipeline using CRM tools.

You will generate proprietary and intermediary-sourced opportunities, coordinate outreach across industries, and support both platform and add-on acquisitions.

Qualifications

• 1–5 years in private equity BD, deal sourcing, origination, or related field.
• Proven history of sourcing opportunities or contributing to closed transactions.
• Existing relationships with lower middle market banks, brokers, and deal intermediaries.
• A strong grasp of the lower middle market private equity landscape.
• Excellent networking, relationship-building, and communication skills.
• Experience using CRM systems and structured business development processes.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain relationships with investment banks, brokers, independent sponsors, and other intermediaries.
• Generate proprietary and intermediary-driven acquisition opportunities for the team.
• Build and execute a consistent outreach strategy across industries and markets.
• Manage and maintain the firm's deal pipeline and CRM platform.
• Track sourcing activity, referrals, and opportunities through the life cycle.
• Collaborate with partners and investment professionals to prioritize sourcing initiatives.
• Identify new channels for off-market and proprietary deal flow.
• Assist with initial screening and evaluation of inbound opportunities.
• Leverage technology, automation tools, and CRM systems to improve efficiency.
• Support platform and add-on acquisition initiatives in target sectors.
• Represent the firm at conferences and intermediary meetings.
• Provide market intelligence to support origination efforts.
