Job summary

New Roots Institute, a growing nonprofit, seeks a Head of Technology to lead technology strategy and hands-on implementation for a distributed team. You will oversee the tech stack, ensure security and compliance, and drive automation to increase impact and efficiency.

The role emphasizes building integrations with platforms like Google Workspace, Asana, and donor databases, plus expanding AI usage responsibly while maintaining strong communication across a remote team.

Qualifications

• Proficiency building small production apps and automation scripts in Python or similar.
• Experience building data integrations via APIs or custom scripts.
• Experience developing and executing technology strategy aligned with org goals.
• Experience evaluating and onboarding tech platforms based on needs.
• Experience translating requests into technical requirements and phased delivery.
• Ability to explain technical systems to non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Own the organization’s technology strategy and AI use.
• Oversee tech ecosystem, performance, security, and compliance.
• Assess features, research platforms, gather team feedback.
• Identify opportunities to automate and improve data accuracy.
• Design, build, and maintain custom apps, automations, and tools.
• Build API connections between Google Workspace, Asana, Airtable, donor databases.
• Maintain cybersecurity protocols and incident response plans.
• Resolve complex tech issues beyond routine support.
