Job summary

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Head of AI Engineering to lead the technical team building AI-powered, program-facing solutions for humanitarian impact. You will steer technical strategy, manage engineers and QA staff, and partner with program leaders and frontier labs to deliver responsible AI in challenging environments.

You will guide architecture for offline-capable AI, edge inference, and diagnostic models, while championing secure data handling and scalable cloud

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience building and shipping production AI systems.
• Strong full-stack foundation with Python and JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Experience with Azure or other cloud services.
• Knowledge of data security for sensitive data.
• 7–10+ years in software engineering; 3+ years leading teams.

Responsibilities

• Define a prioritized AI technical roadmap in partnership with program leaders.
• Stay at the edge of AI/ML advances and bring promising approaches to IRC.
• Lead a team of engineers, applied AI engineers, and QA specialists.
• Collaborate with program leaders and strategic partners to co-design solutions.
• Design AI-driven solutions with end-to-end ownership across programs.
• Oversee deployment pipelines, CI/CD, and cloud infrastructure.
