Job summary

Joseph Michaels International is seeking a Technical Designer in New York, NY, on-site. The role focuses on developing precise technical documentation, executing garment fit, and partnering with multiple teams to ensure quality, fit, and construction meet brand standards.

The candidate should have a strong technical foundation, keen attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate throughout the product development process while maintaining brand consistency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Technical Design, or related field.
• 3–5 years of Technical Design experience in apparel.
• Experience with women's wear; outerwear/activewear preferred.
• Proficient in Illustrator and CAD; strong construction knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain detailed tech packs with sketches, measurements, grading, construction details, and specs.
• Create and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs), packaging, care labels, carton markings, and UPCs.
• Conduct fit sessions using live models and communicate revisions clearly.
• Review prototypes and pre-production garments with pattern makers and manufacturers.
• Ensure samples meet fit, quality, construction, and design intent before production.
• Identify construction challenges and propose practical, cost-aware solutions.
• Collaborate with Design, Product Development, Production, and external partners.
• Maintain timelines and uphold brand standards across projects.
• Apply fabrics, trims, and manufacturing techniques to support development.
• Promote consistency in garment performance, durability, and comfort.
