Virco MFG. Corpoation in Conway, AR seeks an experienced Tool & Die Supervisor to lead the tooling department, drive continuous improvement, and ensure production tooling readiness.

You will guide apprentices, coordinate changes with production, and manage tooling projects end-to-end. The role requires 7+ years in tool & die, 5+ years in team leadership, and strong CAD/CAM skills, with proficiency in MS Word/Excel and English communication.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus a minimum of 7 years of tool and die experience.
  • Must have a minimum of 5-years experience as Team Leader in Tool & Die.
  • Strong machining and CAD/CAM background.
  • Must have the ability to drive motorized equipment or vehicles and have a valid driver’s license, if applicable.
  • Must have strong computer skills (MS Word and Excel).
  • Ability to motivate others in high pressure situations.
  • Great communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must be able to speak English.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direction and leadership to the tooling department to include training and development.
  • Cross trains tool and die apprentices.
  • Coordinates die engineering changes/modifications/repairs with production to ensure dies and other production tooling are ready to run when required.
  • Tracks work order completion and open projects. Submits work orders in a timely manner.
  • Updates Manager on completion status.
  • Ensures that tooling is properly built, accurately assembled, and ready for production use.
  • Prioritizes workflow to meet or exceed production demands.
  • Determines most efficient tooling actions to be taken while considering long-term effects, tool life expectancy, time available, and procedures and equipment available.
  • Coordinates tooling revisions and repairs with outside vendors when resources limit available action in-house.
  • Obtains pertinent information that will assist in tooling builds/revision/repair.
  • Participates in budget planning and capital requests for tool room equipment and supplies.
  • Coordinates team’s continuous improvement efforts.
  • Ensures the shop and equipment is organized and updated.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Purpose:

This position will be responsible for all facets of tool & die and machining principles related to the manufacturing sector and must be well versed in various tool and die craftsmanship skills. This position is also responsible for standard operating/production procedures, safety, quality and housekeeping, as well as continuous improvement initiatives within the Tool and Die Department. In addition, this position provides support to all areas of the operation and will be responsible for the supervision of team members assigned to the designated area.

Essential Functions:

Works with manufacturing to build or repair any production tooling needed to produce our products and works well with others to determine the root cause of problems and provide solutions.

  • Provides direction and leadership to the tooling department to include training and development.

QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus a minimum of 7 years of tool and die experience.
  • Must have a minimum of 5-years experience as Team Leader in Tool & Die.
  • Strong machining and CAD/CAM background.
  • Must have the ability to drive motorized equipment or vehicles and have a valid driver’s license, if applicable.

  • Able to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to provide day-to-day floor leadership to a diverse work group.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and make informed decisions relating to area of responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Tool & Die Maker or equivalent.
  • Mastercam / Wire EDM knowledge
  • Metallurgy / heat treat knowledge
  • Mold experience
  • Welding experience

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds to chest and shoulder level. Occasionally pushes and/or pulls up to 100 pounds with a manual or electrical pallet jack. Able to withstand 8 to 10 hours standing on a concrete surface. Must wear applicable and proper protective equipment including, but not limited to, protective eye and/or hearing equipment to safely perform job duties. Will occasionally be exposed to chemicals, dust, heat, cold, gas, and/or fumes. Must be able to adjust physically to normal plant environmental conditions (above moderate heat and cold) and to adapt quickly to physical applications requiring varying motor skills.
