Job description

Position Description

Located in one of the nation’s most iconic and dynamic cities, the University of Denver Sturm College of Law has a long and distinguished tradition in experiential education. The law school features a DU Bar Success program for graduates of Denver Law to aid in bar preparation studies with numerous practice problems utilizing bar exam materials. The program features workshops, mock bar exams, individualized feedback, and coaching. We provide a team of writing advisers to provide comments for improvement (instead of feedback, we call it feedforward) on every bar essay and performance test submitted from our program. We also provide one‑on‑one coaching to help graduates keep on track and make the most of the learning experience. The Sturm College of Law seeks to hire part‑time (hourly, non‑benefited) Team Leads to advance the DU Bar Success Program. Team Leads oversee teams of Writing Advisers by training and developing new Writing Advisers and managing the quality and consistency of feedback and comments all Writing Advisers on their team provide to graduates studying for the bar exam. This is an hourly, non‑benefited position not to exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year.

  • Manage a team of Writing Advisers to complete feedback on DU Bar Success writing assignments.

  • Synthesize bar exam rubrics and program guidelines into actionable checklists for Writing Advisers.

  • Lead "calibration sessions" to ensure all team members are providing consistent, high-quality feedback aligned with program standards.

  • When needed, provide individualized feedback to answers submitted by students from mock bar exams and workshops.

Required Qualifications

  • Prior experience in legal practice or academic support where high‑level legal writing and analysis were primary job functions.

  • Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite (specifically "Track Changes" and "Comments" in Word) and comfort navigating Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Canvas.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in law school academic support, bar success programming, or as a legal writing teaching assistant/adjunct professor.

  • Prior satisfactory performance as a DUBS Writing Advisor or Team Lead.
